Pick 'n Pay Taste of Durban Giveaway

I love foodie events; walking around tasting wine and food, learning about restaurants in Durban, seeing chefs in action and cooking alongside them. So you can imagine how excited I was when Pick ‘n Pay Taste of Durban approached me with 10 tickets to give away!

The Pick ‘n Pay Taste of Durban will be taking place from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 July at Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World (Suncoast). It’s a foodie event where chefs from nine of Durban’s top restaurants will create special menus of starter-dishes reflecting their ‘individual tastes and food-philosophies’.

This year’s event will have Marcelle Roberts from Café 1999, Louise Potgieter from Havana Grill at Suncoast and Themba Mngoma from Little Havana, newcomer Nardia Adams from Asian Tapas spot Greedy Buddha, Lucy Markewicz flying the colours for Freedom Café, popular Indian restaurant Amaravathi Palki, Market, Beluga Durban, Vigour & Verve and an exciting new addition to the line-up this year, The Durban eKasi Experience, totaling the Chefs and restaurants participating.

There is tons for foodies to do at this event, to name a few; there is a Fresh Living Chef’s Theatre where top chefs showcase their culinary skills through fun demonstrations. Those who want to get stuck in, can attend the Pick n Pay Wine and Canapé Experience, where guests learn how to create simple, stylish and delicious canapés, while being instructed by wine experts on how to pair each canapé with complimentary wines. Chocoholics will find their fix at the Lindt stand where they will be hand crafting Lindt LINDOR truffles and fresh pralines. Visitors can relax while indulging the Castle Milk Stout Experience, where tastings and food pairing will take place. Robertson’s Butcher’s Block in association with Big Green Egg will have a gastro theatre dedicated to all things meaty.

Are you salivating yet? Well, I am! There is something for everyone; and as the years have gone by Pick ‘n Pay Taste of Durban continue to build and improve on this event to ensure an unforgettable foodie experience.

I certainly feel after all that has been tasted, bought and tried out, visitors are definitely going to be leaving Taste of Durban with that ‘stuffed-feeling’. This event is certainly for all those Durban foodies out there, and I couldn’t be happier to select five lucky winners to give tickets to for this event. So in other words, read what you have to do below and get to it!

  2. A braai complete with pap and sous for sure. Nothing like Durban weather to make sure we can braai all year round and enjoy our lovely country with friends, family and perfectly braai-ed meat.

My true Durban dish would most definitely be the, Beef Roti and Beef Bunny at Jay,s Take away on the corner of Mack Rd and Ernest Clockie Rd, in Prospecton. It's a large caravan selling the best bunnies and roti's I've ever tasted. Absolutely delicious. A true taste of Durban. And well supported by businessmen, to shift workers from the factories.

  6. The 1 and only true Durban dish as anybody would tell you, would have to be a Chip and Cheese Roti, and from where you may ask, no place else but " Johnny's Rotis ". If you have ever had the pleasure of tucking into 1 of these bad boys, you will know that nowhere in the world can match a Roti like " Johnny's ".

  7. Must agree that Johnny's Chip & Cheese Roti (with curry gravy) are legendary. Hard to think of Durban's culinary delights without sparing a thought to this monstrous meal.
